Recently, we discovered Ghodlas Indian Restaurant in Observatory, and this Ghodlas Indian Restaurant review reflects just how satisfying the experience was. The beauty of having a mixed heritage is that you grow up with an appreciation for every cuisine your forefathers passed down. For us, Indian food is one of those cuisines that instantly feels like home. It is comforting, nostalgic, and deeply familiar, which is why we are always on the lookout for good Indian restaurants in Cape Town. Recently, we discovered Ghodlas Indian Restaurant in Observatory and left feeling genuinely satisfied.
Ghodlas is a casual Indian restaurant in Observatory that offers a wide variety of classic Indian and Indo Chinese dishes. We opted for a mix of comfort favourites and sharing plates, which made for a really enjoyable meal.
Our main dishes included the Indo Chinese Chicken Chilli, served with fried rice. The dish had a delicious balance of soya sauce, heat, and tanginess that we absolutely loved. We also ordered the Chicken Vindaloo, a rich tomato based curry garnished with ginger sticks that added a fresh bite to every spoonful.

Saleha is a big fan of starters, so no meal is ever complete without a few plates to share. We ordered the Veg Platter for two, along with the Dahi Sev Puri Platter, which added a great mix of textures and flavours to the table. Everything was washed down with a Mango Lassi, which was exactly what we needed on a hot summer day.
Despite some negative Google reviews, we were pleasantly surprised by our experience at Ghodlas Indian Restaurant. The food easily matched the quality and flavour of some of the best Indian restaurants we have tried in Cape Town. The service was friendly, efficient, and the food arrived within a reasonable time.
One thing we would recommend is dining in at the restaurant rather than ordering online. Most of the complaints we noticed were related to delivery experiences, while our sit down meal was smooth and enjoyable from start to finish.
If you bank with FNB in South Africa, Ghodlas is also part of the Entertainer app at the time of writing. They are offering a deal where you receive the cheaper curry free when ordering two, subject to terms and conditions. It is a great option if you are looking for value while exploring Indian food in Observatory.
If you are craving comforting Indian flavours, this Ghodlas Indian Restaurant review should give you a good idea of what to expect when dining in Observatory.
