Kloof Corner Trail Guide: A Quick and Short Hike in Cape Town with Big Views

Kloof Corner Hike: One of the Best Short Hikes in Cape Town

Looking for a short hike in Cape Town that delivers incredible views without taking up your whole day? Let us introduce you to what we call the “best bang for your buck” hike: Kloof Corner.

This quick trail on the side of Table Mountain is one of the simplest hikes in Cape Town, yet the views rival many longer routes. The full hike up and down can be completed in about an hour, making it perfect if you want a quick outdoor workout with a big scenic payoff.

What makes Kloof Corner special is how quickly you gain elevation. Within minutes, you’re already looking out over some of Cape Town’s most iconic landmarks.

Hike Duration, Location and Fitness Level

Duration: About 1 hour return (excluding time for pictures)

Location: Kloof Corner trailhead on Tafelberg Road

Fitness level: Low to moderate

The trailhead is located along Tafelberg Road, the same road that leads to the Table Mountain cableway. There is usually parking along the roadside near the start of the trail.

Although the hike is short, it’s still a proper workout. The route mostly consists of stairs climbing steadily up the mountain, which can feel intense on the way up.

If you have a low to medium level of fitness, you should be able to complete it comfortably with a few breaks. Be warned, it's stairs mostly the whole way so do prepare for that!

The Views Along the Kloof Corner Trail

The biggest reward of this hike is the view. From the top, you get a sweeping perspective across Cape Town and the Atlantic coastline. You’ll see Lion’s Head rising above the city, the Twelve Apostles stretching along the mountain range, and endless ocean views toward Camps Bay and beyond.

Looking back toward the city, the view of the Cape Town skyline framed by Table Mountain is equally impressive. For such a short hike, the scenery feels surprisingly expansive.

Sunset Hikes at Kloof Corner

We often do this hike at sunset, which we’d highly recommend during summer when the days are longer.

Watching the sun dip behind the ocean while the city lights begin to glow is a special experience. Just remember to bring a headlamp or torch if you plan to descend after dark. That said, this hike is just as enjoyable in the morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler.

Why Kloof Corner Is Worth It

Every hike involves a balance between the effort required and the views you get in return.

Kloof Corner stands out because the reward comes quickly. The climb may be short, but it still feels like a workout, and the panoramic scenery at the top makes it feel far more substantial than a one-hour outing.

Our Experience Hiking Kloof Corner

We completed the hike as a sunset walk and reached the top in around 30 minutes. The stair climb definitely gets the heart rate up, but the views of Lion’s Head, Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean made the effort worthwhile.

As with any hike on Table Mountain, check the weather conditions before heading out and avoid hiking alone after dark.

If you’re short on time but still want to experience one of Cape Town’s classic viewpoints, this hike is hard to beat. Alternatively, check out our guides to Bailey's Kloof, Woodstock Cave, or Cecilia Waterfall.
