If you're looking to treat yourself to a slightly more luxurious breakfast in Sea Point, Sonny and Irene is one of the most talked-about cafés in Cape Town right now.
Located in the heart of Sea Point, this trendy breakfast spot has quickly become known for its stylish interiors, aesthetic drinks, and lively atmosphere. Whether you're a local or visiting Cape Town, it’s the kind of place you go for both the food and the experience.
From the moment you walk in, the space feels elevated yet comfortable. Think plush finishes, beautifully plated dishes, and a crowd that’s just as stylish as the setting. The staff are friendly and attentive, adding to the overall experience.
Breakfast at Sonny and Irene in Sea Point
As one of the most popular breakfast spots in Sea Point, the menu at Sonny and Irene offers a mix of classic and creative dishes.
We visited for breakfast and tried a couple of items that gave us a good feel for what they do best.

What we ordered
We decided to try a mix of sweet and savoury options. The French toast with maple syrup (which was off-menu at the time) was a simple, classic option. While enjoyable, we do think their official menu version might offer more depth in flavour.
The standout for us was the green pea pancake. It was surprisingly delicious, unique, and something we would definitely order again. It’s one of those dishes that feels a bit different from your typical breakfast, which makes it memorable.
Overall, we’d rate the food a solid 7 out of 10. It’s well-presented, satisfying, and enjoyable, even if not the absolute best we’ve had in Cape Town.
What Sonny and Irene does best
Where Sonny and Irene really stands out is in its drinks and overall café experience. The honeycomb latte was sweet, comforting, and beautifully presented, easily one of the most photogenic drinks we’ve had in a while.
The tropical green smoothie was equally impressive, offering a refreshing and well-balanced option if you’re looking for something lighter. If you're visiting, we’d highly recommend ordering at least one of their drinks, as this is where they truly shine.
What to know before you go
There are a few things to keep in mind before visiting Sonny and Irene.
They do not take bookings for breakfast on weekends, so you’ll need to walk in. That said, the waiting times are well managed, and we were seated exactly when expected.
The pricing is slightly higher than average for breakfast in Cape Town, but you’re paying for more than just the food. Between the atmosphere, service, and overall experience, it feels like a worthwhile treat rather than an everyday café.
